There is a new Grokodile blog, which will be the official blog for the directory. This blog will continue to be a parallel place for me to talk about startup and other issues from a personal perspective.

Slogan Tweaking

I've been tweaking the header slogan a bit more. Now it changes based on what "level" of the directory you are at. At the home page it simply lets the user know that they are looking at a blog directory. As you dig in, the message changes and finally ends with "I get it!" at the local level. I guess if user bothers to dig in that deep, they really do get it.

If you arrive at the local level from a search engine, which happens a fair amount.

On another note, I just banned someone's blog. They created a blog for the sole purpose of pushing AGLOCO and it had one post on it. Like anyone is just itching to "discover" this enticing blog on the Internet. While from time to time things sneak in, or people change their site after acceptance, we are serious about trying to bring you quality blogs and to rank them highly.

A New Directory Slogan

Well, it was finally time to retire the silly little slogan of "I get it!". That doesn't describe what Grokodile does. That doesn't help new visitors get excited about the potential of the Grokodile.

So, here is the new slogan...

Joining online communities with local communities!

That is what Grokodile does. That describes how it fits into our lives, both online and off. This segment of the Internet, it's connection with our physical lives, is an aspect that so far has not been embraced by previous efforts.

Grokodile does that.

March Grokodile Updates #4

Time to sneak in just one more March update. As noted on the Grokodile news page, the detail page feature has been activated.

This feature allows listed blogs and sites to add custom tags and also to provide custom links to important posts or pages. This feature is often known as deep linking, and can help highlight content areas as well as just the site home page.

Small follow up changes will probably be made soon. For example, welcome email messages and FAQ pages still need to be updated.

While this could lead to more attempts to spam, we do review and delete MFA, affiliate and other low quality sites. We've even added a "report" button so directory browsers can alert us to anything we didn't notice.

Getting Noticed

Well, it's certainly nice to be noticed. Admitted, these little anecdotes are fairly inconsequential, but I've been contacted a couple of times in the last few days by other Internet entrepreneurs.

Umm, no, I don't just mean somebody with an Adsense blog or something dorky like that.

These people have built something, and though fairly trivially, have had occasion to drop me a small note. It's not significant in a business way, but it's very nice to know that there is a small but growing group of people who are at least aware of the Grokodile.
